Words! Words! Words!

I’ve read four more chapters from my PR book “The girl in the train” by Paula Hawkins and I’d like to share with you some words which seem to be interesting and useful.

1. To trip (somebody) up = to make a mistake or to cause someone to make a mistake = запутать, сбить с толку

“She’s supposing to be on my side, but all the time I feel she’s snooping, like she’s trying to trip me up.”

2. To feel wretched = to feel very unhappy = чувствовать себя несчастным

“I felt wretched then. I wasn’t helping, I had just made him feel worse…”

3. To blurt out (something) = to say something suddenly, and without thinking of the results = сболтнуть, выпалить

“I saw her with someone’, I said. I just blurted it out, blunt and loud with no build-up, no context.”
