The photo made me quite pensive because it is directly related to our obsession with the Internet.

The internet has occupied every inch of our life since its appearance. This phenomenon has both advantages and disadvantages. Although the list of pros is decidedly much longer, the list of cons has more significance.

To be honest, I am convinced that the Internet has destroyed our lives in many ways. However, interpersonal communication has borne the brunt of it. I need to specify that when I say “interpersonal communication” I mean real communication when people get together to shoot the breeze, for instance.

Nowadays, it is very likely to see two people sit in a nice café and look into their phones. They may make small talk which is convenient as it does not distract from posting things or just browsing one’s Instagram. And that is it. No more laugh, jokes, grins, whisper, and exclamations — nothing. There is the deafening silence there.

Sometimes it seems to me that because of all modern technologies people start forgetting how it is like to talk to people face-to-face. Many of them have difficulty with formulating their ideas (because it is easier to do when you write), their non-verbal behavior sometimes is rum. They think they have already exhausted the topic by saying just a few words. In general, they do not how to behave and what to say.

Even fifteen years ago people’s conversations were different because people were different. Why not try to be like them at least for a day? With no Internet, no social media. Let’s give it a try!
