I’m a TEACHER
Today (11/5) I was a teacher! I can’t say that it was my first teaching experience but it was my first English teaching experience. It changes everything (:
I was supposed to teach a friend or a relative a few words and phrases in English keeping in mind that the less English my friend or relative knows, the better. Anyway, after thinking for a while and receiving a refusal from my parents (okay), I decided to teach my best friend Masha (she is a great girl) some phrases that she can easily use in her everyday life. Even though she isn’t bad at English (what is quite opposite to my assignment. Oh), I know it will be useful for her because she is a student of Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod where she has to make up short dialogs (English class).
That’s why I chose 4 very cool phrases that can be suitable to almost every dialog:
— The clock is ticking (from the film “When Harry met Sally);
— What’s the catch? (from the film “North”);
— Hang in there! (from the film “North”);
— Lighten up! (from the film “My Bid Fat Greek Wedding”).
It was the easiest part of my preparation.
The next thing I needed to do was to make my friend keep in memory the phrases. And it was the hardest part of my preparation. Masha and I have been friends for over 15 years and I know that she has some problems with it (with keeping things in memory, not with me)! Anyway, I decided to find out some ways to help her with memorizing phrases.
What I did to help her:
1. I gave her an association with our favorite Russian phrase (the clock is ticking);
2. She composed the phrase (what’s the catch) by herself;
3. I gave her a short story with the phrase (hang in there) and asked her to guess how the phrase should be translated (it was easy to guess);
4. I asked her to make up a situation where she could use the phrase (lighten up).
Enjoy the video!
I really hope that those “methods” were effective and Masha won’t forget the phrases I taught her. Anyway, I’m going to check it out someday (;
Also, Masha gave me her feedback.
“What do I think about the lesson? Well:
1) It was very interesting;
2) The phrases were absolutely useful;
3) The presentation was pretty good: everything was clear and informative. I learnt the phrases very quickly!
Frankly speaking, I’ll use these phrases every day with great pleasure!
Also I want to thank my ‘teacher’ who is also my best friend for this amazing lesson !
Thank you ❤ ”
