THE SOUND AND THE FURY

My book choice for this semester is ‘The Sound and the Fury.’ It was written by a distinguished American author William Faulkner. The novel traces the decay of the once prominent Compson family. I am almost halfway through the book by now, and the story has been told by two…

2021

Today is the 30th of December, and my nose piercing is celebrating its first six months! I had never felt so myself before I got my nose pierced one warm summer evening (the one when Liza and I waved a farewell to each other for a while). Frankly, I had…

EAST OF EDEN

Fingers crossed, in a week, I will be finishing ‘East of Eden,’ and I cannot wait to start reading the book again when I have more time on my hands. Never have I ever been so disgruntled with the way I am treating the eye-opening piece of literature. It seems…

The other day it occurred to me that we are supposed to spend 5/10/15 minutes on Memrise a day — not a week :)) Anyway, here are some words for you and for me (A song from ‘Rent’ Today 4 you // Tomorrow for me is playing in my head): …

MEMRISE, FINALLY

With the classroom teaching practice we are going through now, my life has turned upside-down. However, I should not forget about my loyal (royal subject, thank you, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jonathan Groff) friend MEMRISE. Here are some words from my today’s session: IRATE = furious, wrathful, outraged OBSEQUIOUS = blandish OR fawning, sycophantic, servile OBSTREPEROUS = noisy, vociferous, unruly TANTAMOUNT TO = equivalent to (wow!)

CIVICS PRACTICE TEST

Should I apply for U.S. citizenship now? :) The questions seemed to be easy (we have touched upon them during our classes), so it took me less than two minutes to successfully complete the test. However, there was one question that I had no idea how to respond to; I got fortunate and guessed it. Now I know that if both the President and the Vice President can no longer serve, the Speaker of the House becomes the President of the United States. Anyway, I L-O-V-E-D this assignment! It was engrossing to do!

CHANGING THE SUBJECT

It is curious how sometimes my mind may go in the opposite direction and flip any situation. For example, the other day, while I was reading ‘East of Eden,’ I unearthed a quote: ‘Perhaps it takes courage to raise children.’ It was (and still is) evident that raising children is…
