05/29
On Wednesday, 05/29, my awesome groupmates and I had an amazing cooking experience with one lovely American woman at her apartment.
Our goal was to speak English and cook three American dishes. For that, we were divided into four groups to make the dishes: a chicken pot pie, brownie, and a tuna salad. I was in charge of making the chicken pot pie. To be precise, I should boil two chicken breasts with one cube for chicken bullion. Although I needed to watch the breasts, I managed to help a few girls (who were to do the crust) to knead the dough and roll it out using a rolling pin. It was not a big deal, for sure, but still, it was exciting.
In terms of the food we made, it was just marvelous.
The brownie was so sugary! Although I had expected it to be thick and more like a cake, it turned out to be smooth and moist. Anyway, the brownie was super-delicious and easy to make (unfortunately, I missed the process of making it but the girls generously shared the recipe).
The tuna salad was THE dish of the day. I don’t go for dill and there was a lot of chopped dill in the salad but it didn’t spoil anything. As for the chicken pot pie, I can say that the pie was fine but I cannot say that I would eat it again. I didn’t like the dough as it was a little bland. And there were peas in the filling…To let you know, I can’t stand peas.
The process of cooking was rather simple because thanks to our classes we learned a lot of cooking vocabulary and that helped us not to lose our heads.
Besides, we had a really nice talk with the hostess. Mrs. Stacie told us about her life. And that was the highlight of the day. Her story made me realize that I shouldn’t be afraid of taking chances and trying something new. At least, we live only once.
All in all, it was one of the greatest days of my life. Thank you Ms.B for such an opportunity!
